My âbook friendsâ and I want to wish you a delightfully spooky Halloween!
Light a candle and spare a thought for those you miss. This is a day â and night â to live a little extra for their sake.
May your jack-oâ-lantern scare away evil spirits and draw in little monsters and mischievous ghosts with a sweet tooth!
Have a frightfully fun evening â and take care of yourself (and each other). đ€
Warm hugs from Harley, Quinley & Herrow
P.S. If you prefer a quiet day and evening, Coffinfolkâs door is always open for you.
Today marks eight years since my beloved aunt Sussa passed away.
She was so much more than just family â she was the one who sparked my fascination with folklore and the shadows we rarely speak of. She always listened, gave the best advice, and was my true family. Without sounding too dramatic, I donât think Iâd still be here if it werenât for her.
That she chose to meet Death on Halloween has never made the day harder to celebrate â quite the opposite.
This is the day she was freed from the pain of her illnesses.
Rest in peace, Sussa. Feel free to visit if youâd like â good food, drinks, music, and laughter await. đ
To close, Iâd like to share a poem that means a great deal to me, especially at this time of year.
It reminds me that love and memories are things we carry forward â and share.
âEpitaphâ by Merrit Malloy
When I die
Give whatâs left of me away
To children
And old men that wait to die.
And if you need to cry,
Cry for your brother
Walking the street beside you.
And when you need me,
Put your arms
Around anyone
And give them
What you need to give to me.
I want to leave you something,
Something better
Than words
Or sounds.
Look for me
In the people Iâve known
Or loved,
And if you cannot give me away,
At least let me live on in your eyes
And not on your mind.
You can love me most
By letting
Hands touch hands,
By letting
Bodies touch bodies,
And by letting go
Of children
That need to be free.
Love doesnât die,
People do.
So, when all thatâs left of me
Is love,
Give me away.
Iâll see you at home
In the earth.
